Utah Jazz center Jusuf Nurkić contributed 15 points as Bosnia and Herzegovina secured an 84-76 victory over Group C opponent Georgia, ensuring their advancement to the knockout stage of EuroBasket on Thursday.

Despite trailing by 12 points at halftime, Georgia put up a strong fight, leveling the game at 71-71 with just over seven minutes remaining in the fourth quarter in Limassol, Cyprus.

Nurkić halted Georgia’s comeback with a hook shot assisted by Edin Atic, triggering a nine-point scoring surge for his team. The Georgian squad faltered, with their bench adding only four points throughout the game.

Dominating the boards, Nurkić recorded 12 rebounds—the highest of any player—and notched his third consecutive double-double in the tournament.

Alexander Mamukelashvili of the Toronto Raptors was Georgia’s leading scorer, tallying 20 points along with eight rebounds.

This loss positioned Georgia in fourth place, leaving them reliant on the outcome of defending champion Spain’s game against Greece later in the day.

Spain needed a win against Greece to secure qualification after suffering two defeats in their Group C matches. Meanwhile, Italy, already advanced, faced off against last-place Cyprus in another group matchup.

In other Group D action, Zacharie Risacher led France to a commanding 114-74 win over Iceland in Katowice, Poland, scoring 15 points.

Risacher shot impressively, making three of five attempts from beyond the arc and pulling down seven rebounds. France’s scoring was well-distributed, with seven additional players contributing at least 10 points, bolstered by a strong bench that accounted for 66 points collectively.

This victory temporarily placed the Olympic silver medalists, France, at the top of Group D, ahead of Israel’s game against Slovenia later that evening, as both teams had already secured their places in the knockout rounds.

The tournament’s knockout stage is set to commence in Riga, Latvia, on Saturday.

In the 2022 final, Spain triumphed over France with an 88-76 scoreline.
