LeBron James Dismisses Coaching Aspirations, Eyes Ownership Role in Basketballs Future

At the age of 40, and approaching 41 as he embarks on his 23rd season in the NBA, LeBron James is clearly in the twilight of an illustrious career. Nevertheless, the prospect of transitioning into coaching in the future appears highly improbable.

While on a trip to China this summer, he reiterated his total disinterest in taking on a coaching role. “No, no, no, coaching is not for me. No, no, no. I’ve been inspired by the game and I love it, but coaching isn’t in my future,” he stated during an interview with CGTN Sports Scene, once again dismissing the idea.

With coaching off the table, it seems James may explore other avenues, possibly in a role related to ownership—whether that remains within the NBA or leads him to a new international league. This speculation comes in light of a recent Eurohoops report detailing a meeting in France involving his long-time business associate Maverick Carter, agent Misko Raznatovic, and himself.

As he prepares for the 2025-26 season, which will mark his eighth with the Los Angeles Lakers, he looks forward to a full campaign alongside Slovenian superstar Luka Doncic. Conversations about his future with the renowned franchise have dominated the offseason chatter, although he is expected to bolster the team’s championship aspirations under head coach JJ Redick.

After opting into a $52.6 million player option, James extended his contract for the upcoming season during the offseason but will enter unrestricted free agency next summer.
