Tony Parker Advocates for Unified European Basketball League: A Vision for Collaboration Among NBA, EuroLeague, and FIBA

In an interview with China Daily, Tony Parker reiterated his stance that the NBA, EuroLeague, and FIBA should join forces to create a unified league in Europe.

As a stakeholder in the EuroLeague through his ownership of ASVEL, Parker believes the establishment of an NBA Europe is only a matter of time, emphasizing the need for collective participation in this endeavor.

“I believe it’s a fantastic concept,” Parker remarked during his visit to Chengdu to promote a street basketball tournament supported by the NBA. “If the EuroLeague, NBA, and FIBA can collaborate to form a robust league, it would greatly benefit European basketball.”

Having positioned himself as a potential mediator between the EuroLeague and the NBA, Parker has been outspoken about his views, asserting that collaboration is essential: “Ultimately, we’re engaging in discussions and striving for the right path. As an owner of a French club, I see the alignment among the three as crucial for the success of basketball in Europe.”

He further stressed the inevitability of an NBA presence in Europe: “In my view, an NBA Europe league is just around the corner. They are on their way, and it’s destined to happen. The NBA is an incredibly strong brand recognized worldwide, and in Europe, its reputation is well-established. This is why I think the NBA can significantly enhance the visibility and stature of the game across Europe.”
