LeBron James has reflected on the possibility of retirement, although he did not specify when he plans to end his career.
“I know I’m past the peak,” the 40-year-old forward stated on the ‘360 With Speedy’ podcast. “I’m certainly not going to play another 23 years, that’s for sure, and 10 years isn’t happening either.”
“I’m definitely approaching the conclusion of my career. I’m not there yet,” he continued, as a four-time NBA champion and seasoned player entering his 22nd season.
As he prepares for his 23rd season, following his selection as the first overall pick in the 2003 draft, the 2025-26 season will mark his eighth with the Los Angeles Lakers, after spending 11 years with the Cleveland Cavaliers and four with the Miami Heat.
Last year, he participated in 75 games across both the Regular Season and the Playoffs, averaging 24.5 points, 8.0 assists, 7.9 rebounds, 1.1 steals, and 0.6 blocks per game. He remains far from slowing down, yet he acknowledges that retirement is on the horizon.
“Retirement is on its way,” he noted, “but it’s not here just yet.”
During the interview, which took place during his recent visit to China, LeBron discussed various topics, including the debate surrounding his claim about predicting Kobe Bryant’s iconic 81-point game in 2006 and recalling his younger days, naming Derrick Tarver as the best player he ever faced.
