Tatum Keeps Hope Alive for Comeback as Celtics Aim for Championship Glory

Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum has not ruled out the chance of making his highly anticipated comeback from an Achilles injury in the upcoming season.

“I haven’t stated that I won’t play this season,” Tatum said during his appearance on ESPN’s First Take. “The key is to fully recuperate: No need to rush. I don’t attend rehab six days a week for no reason.”

Tatum is putting in the effort to be ready for the 2025-26 season and assist the Celtics in their quest to reclaim the championship, which they last won in 2024. The 27-year-old forward sustained the injury in May during the NBA playoffs.

If Tatum’s rehabilitation continues to progress well, the optimal scenario would see him back on the court towards the end of the regular season.

“With that said… as a member of the organization and the Celtics, there’s a certain standard we adhere to,” Tatum noted regarding his teammates stepping up in his absence and in light of several departures over the summer. “No matter the lineup or who’s on the roster, we take pride in wearing that uniform and competing for a championship. That level of commitment won’t change.”

A six-time All-Star, Tatum recorded averages of 26.8 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 6.0 assists during the 2024-25 regular season.
