Monte Morris has reached an agreement with the Indiana Pacers on a one-year contract that includes partial guarantees, as reported by several US media outlets on Tuesday.
In recent weeks, the 30-year-old point guard had been weighing his options, which included the possibility of continuing his career in the EuroLeague. He had previously attracted interest from teams like Olympiacos and Partizan Mozzart Bet in Europe’s elite club competition. Now, he will aim to secure a place on the Pacers’ roster for the 2025-26 season, with the chance to enter the free-agent market afterward.
As the team prepares for training camp following their trip to the 2025 NBA Finals Presented by YouTube TV, head coach Rick Carlisle’s squad currently has 13 players with fully guaranteed contracts. This opens up opportunities for Morris and other contenders vying for spots on the starting lineup. The Pacers are currently dealing with an injury to Tyrese Haliburton, who is expected to miss the entire season, making the addition of another point guard essential for depth behind Andrew Nembhard and T.J. McConnell.
After playing college basketball at Iowa State, Morris was drafted by the Denver Nuggets with the 51st overall pick in the 2017 NBA draft. He began his career on a two-way contract before establishing himself in Denver, where he played for five years. He later joined the Washington Wizards, Detroit Pistons, and Minnesota Timberwolves via trades, and signed with the Phoenix Suns as a free agent last summer. In total, he has appeared in 477 NBA games.
During his time with the Suns last season, he averaged 5.2 points, 1.6 assists, 1.5 rebounds, 0.4 steals, and 0.1 blocks per game across 45 appearances.
