Monte Morris Joins Pacers on Partially Guaranteed Deal Amid Competitive Roster Landscape

Monte Morris has signed a one-year partially guaranteed deal with the Indiana Pacers, according to several U.S. news sources on Tuesday.

Over the past few weeks, the 30-year-old point guard has been weighing his options, including a potential shift to the EuroLeague. He was previously connected to European clubs Olympiacos and Partizan Mozzart Bet from the continent’s elite competition. Now, he is set to vie for a position on the Pacers’ 2025-26 roster, with the possibility of returning to the free-agent market afterward.

As the team, led by coach Rick Carlisle, heads into training camp following their appearance in the 2025 NBA Finals Presented by YouTube TV, they currently have 13 players under fully guaranteed contracts. This opens up opportunities for Morris and other contenders for a spot in the starting lineup. The Pacers’ current scenario includes Tyrese Haliburton on the injury list, likely sidelined for the entire season. Hence, adding another point guard could provide crucial support behind Andrew Nembhard and T.J. McConnell.

Morris, who played college ball at Iowa State, was picked by the Denver Nuggets with the 51st overall selection in the 2017 NBA Draft. After signing a two-way contract, he remained in Denver for five years before being traded to the Washington Wizards, Detroit Pistons, and Minnesota Timberwolves. He signed with the Phoenix Suns last summer as a free agent and has accumulated 477 appearances throughout his career.

In his time with the Suns last season, he averaged 5.2 points, 1.6 assists, 1.5 rebounds, 0.4 steals, and 0.1 blocks per game across 45 games.
