Monte Morris Joins Pacers with Partially Guaranteed Deal, Eyes Roster Spot Amidst Tyrese Haliburtons Injury

Monte Morris has signed a one-year partially guaranteed deal with the Indiana Pacers, as reported by several US media outlets on Tuesday.

In recent weeks, the 30-year-old point guard had been weighing his options, including a potential move to the EuroLeague. Previously mentioned in connection with Olympiacos and Partizan Mozzart Bet from Europe’s top club competition, he will vie for a position on the Pacers’ roster for the 2025-26 season, before possibly returning to the free-agent market.

As the team prepares for training camp following their participation in the 2025 NBA Finals Presented by YouTube TV, Rick Carlisle’s squad currently has 13 players with fully guaranteed contracts. This leaves the door open for Morris and other contenders for a spot in the starting lineup. The Pacers are currently dealing with Tyrese Haliburton’s injury, as he is expected to miss the entire season. Adding another point guard would enhance the depth behind Andrew Nembhard and T.J. McConnell.

Morris, who played at Iowa State, was selected by the Denver Nuggets with the 51st pick in the 2017 NBA Draft. After beginning his career with a two-way contract, he remained in Denver for five years before being traded to the Washington Wizards, Detroit Pistons, and Minnesota Timberwolves. Last summer, he signed as a free agent with the Phoenix Suns. Throughout his career, he has played in a total of 477 games.

During his time with the Suns last season, he averaged 5.2 points, 1.6 assists, 1.5 rebounds, 0.4 steals, and 0.1 blocks per game over 45 contests.
