Monte Morris has reached an agreement on a one-year partially guaranteed contract with the Indiana Pacers, according to several U.S. media outlets on Tuesday.
In recent weeks, the 30-year-old point guard had been weighing his options, including a potential move to the EuroLeague. He had previously been linked to European clubs Olympiacos and Partizan Mozzart Bet. Morris will compete for a position on the Pacers’ roster for the 2025-26 season before possibly exploring free agency again.
As the team approaches training camp following their appearance in the 2025 NBA Finals Presented by YouTube TV, head coach Rick Carlisle’s squad already has 13 players with fully guaranteed contracts. This situation opens up opportunities for Morris and other contenders for the starting lineup. Currently, the Pacers are dealing with Tyrese Haliburton on the injury report and expected to miss the entire season, making the addition of another point guard crucial for depth behind Andrew Nembhard and T.J. McConnell.
Morris, who hails from Iowa State, was drafted by the Denver Nuggets as the 51st overall pick in the 2017 NBA draft. After starting with a two-way contract and spending five years in Denver, he was traded to the Washington Wizards, Detroit Pistons, and Minnesota Timberwolves before signing as a free agent with the Phoenix Suns last summer. Throughout his career, he has participated in 477 games.
During his time with the Suns last season, Morris averaged 5.2 points, 1.6 assists, 1.5 rebounds, 0.4 steals, and 0.1 blocks per game over 45 appearances.
