Al Horford has agreed to a multi-year deal with the Golden State Warriors, according to a report by ESPN’s senior NBA insider Shams Charania on Sunday.
As the primary target for the Warriors at the center position throughout the offseason, the five-time All-Star evaluated various options, including the possibility of retirement, before finalizing his commitment to the team.
Horford, who played for the Boston Celtics from 2016 to 2019 and returned for the 2021 season until last year, was part of the championship-winning team in 2024. He has also been a member of the Oklahoma City Thunder, Philadelphia 76ers, and Atlanta Hawks, accumulating a total of 1,135 appearances in the NBA, including regular-season and playoff games. His upcoming role will see him as the starting center under Steve Kerr’s leadership.
Drafted in 2007 as the third overall pick following Greg Oden and Kevin Durant after his time at Florida, Horford spent the initial nine years of his career with the Hawks before joining the Celtics as a free agent in 2016. He later signed with the Sixers in 2019 and was traded to the Thunder midway through the 2020-21 season. Before the 2021-22 season, he made a return to the Celtics through a trade.
On the international stage, he represented the Dominican Republic in FIBA competitions from 2008 to 2012, participating in the 2012 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Venezuela. Additionally, he secured a bronze medal at the 2011 FIBA Americas Championship and played a key role in his nation’s fifth-place finish at the 2009 FIBA Americas Championship, alongside winning gold at Centrobasket in 2012 and bronze in 2008.
