The San Antonio Spurs and Victor Wembanyama are making a splash with their unbeaten 5-0 record, earning Shaquille O’Neal’s admiration even at this early stage.
During an appearance on “The Rich Eisen Show,” Shaq praised Wembanyama as a revolutionary figure in the landscape of NBA big men.
He remarked, “Victor Wembanyama is transforming the perception of what a big man can achieve. While Joker has already shifted expectations, Wemby is elevating it even further: dribbling between his legs, pulling back, reminiscent of Kevin Durant. He’s showcasing outstanding basketball skills, and I’m thrilled for him and the San Antonio franchise.”
As for advice to Wemby, Shaq emphasized the importance of managing his energy throughout the season: “I would advise him to pace himself. Phil Jackson had a unique approach; during our championship run, he’d sometimes tell me, ‘Take a couple of games off. You need some rest. No parties, no music videos, no commercials—just focus on recuperating. But when you return, I want you to hit 40 points per game.’ Phil excelled at managing my playing time and recovery, and he was remarkably effective at steering us away from difficulties we faced with Utah before he arrived.”
