The San Antonio Spurs and Victor Wembanyama are grabbing attention with their impressive 5-0 record, and Shaquille O’Neal is already sold on the young star.
During his appearance on “The Rich Eisen Show,” Shaq praised Wemby as a groundbreaking presence in the league, drawing parallels to a distinct type of big man.
He remarked, “Victor Wembanyama is transforming the expectations of what a big man can achieve. While Joker has already changed the game for big players, Wemby is elevating it to an entirely new level—with his skills, like dribbling between his legs and executing step-back shots reminiscent of Kevin Durant. He’s demonstrating exceptional basketball talent right now, and I’m thrilled for him and for the San Antonio franchise.”
Shaq also offered some guidance to Wemby, advising him to manage his energy throughout the season: “I would suggest that he take his time. Phil Jackson had a unique approach; during the three championship seasons, he would sometimes say, ‘Hey, take a couple of games off. I need you to rest. Skip the parties, no rap videos, no commercials—just focus on recuperating. But when you’re back, I expect you to score 40 a night.’ Phil excelled at balancing my playing time with my recovery, and he skillfully kept us away from Utah, which was always a challenge before he joined us.”
