Celtics’ forward Grant Williams had surgery on left hand

[ad_1]

According to new reporting from ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, reserve Boston Celtics forward Grant Williams had surgery on his left hand “that’s expected to have him fully recovered for the start of NBA training camp in the fall”.

The Charlotte native played through the injury — sustained in March of last season — and elected to play through the discomfort given the priority of trying to make a deep playoff run with the team, per Woj. Williams is now looking at restricted free agency that could see his time with the Celtics come to an end if the Tennessee alum gets an outlandishly large offer sheet thrown his way.

But barring such an unlikely outcome, will likely re-sign with the club that drafted him and should be able to take the court for Boston or any team he’s signed with.

The news might help explain Williams’ light use late in the season and in the postseason beyond it, a baffling situation to some without the knowledge of the injury being public at that time.
