MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) – The Milwaukee Bucks have reportedly asked teams to include a high draft pick in a deal for center Brook Lopez.

According to NBA Insider Gery Woelfel, the Bucks would like a team to send a first-round pick as part of the deal for Brook Lopez, which teams that have spoken to Milwaukee about a possible trade have considered to be “too rich” since they’d also have to take Lopez’s contract worth $23 million.

Both the Los Angeles Lakers and San Antonio Spurs have expressed interest in acquiring Lopez and do have first-round picks to offer, but it’s unlikely that they could afford to take the full contract due to their current salary cap situations unless the Bucks would be willing to take on a higher contract from their roster.

Contracts that Los Angeles could deal to Milwaukee to help even the salary costs would include D’Angelo Russell, Rui Hachimura, Jarred Vanderbilt, and Gabe Vincent, which could fill some holes on Milwaukee’s transforming roster which now includes former Heat guard Delon Wright and former Lakers forward Taurean Prince.

Starting in 79 games in 2023 for the Bucks, Lopez maintained his high caliber of play, averaging 12.5 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 2.4 blocks.
