Knicks assistant Johnnie Bryant agrees on deal to become Cavaliers associate head coach

Knicks assistant Johnnie Bryant has reached an agreement on a deal to become the associate head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers, SNY’s NBA Insider Ian Begley has confirmed.

Sources have told Begley that since Bryant was still in the middle of his deal with the Knicks, ownership had to sign off on any contract for him to leave the Big Apple.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski was first on reports of a deal.

Bryant departs after spending four seasons as a member of the Knicks’ staff and he was very well-regarded by numerous current and former players within the organization.

The 38-year-old interviewed for the Cleveland head coaching job and is said to have a very strong relationship with recently extended star shooting guard Donovan Mitchell.

Losing Bryant will certainly be a big blow for the Knicks, but they also recently hired Hall of Famer and long-time NBA coach Mo Cheeks to join Tom Thibodeau‘s coaching staff.
