Robin Lopez Reads Book Courtside After Being Traded

Hours after being traded by the Milwaukee Bucks, center Robin Lopez enjoyed his final moments in the city by catching the game and doing some courtside reading.

Ahead of the NBA trade deadline, ESPN insider Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the Bucks traded Lopez to the Sacramento Kings. According to Wojnarowski, the 35-year was expected to be waived by his new team to become a free agent.

When a player is traded the same day the team plays a game, he usually won’t play. That was the case for Lopez, but he made the uncommon decision to still be in the arena.

In the first quarter of Thursday’s game between the Bucks and the Minnesota Timberwolves, Lopez was spotted in the Fiserv Forum enjoying his evening while technically being a member of the Kings. As the broadcast showed Bucks center Brook Lopez — Robin’s twin brother — it then cut to a shot of Robin sitting next to the team bench. Sporting a Groucho Marx graphic t-shirt, Robin calmly read the book Backstory 2 while Brook was playing on the court.

“Oh, there’s his brother,” Bally Sports announcer Michael Grady said. “Traded to Sacramento — and he’s going to be waived — and he’s not even watching the game, [Jim Petersen].”

Petersen noticed the book he was reading, and marveled at the fact that he was actually deep into the book.

“He’s a Stanford guy,” Petersen said. “And you know what? He’s not at the beginning, either. He’s been reading this book for a while. Did he check it out from the library? Was there like a stamp on top?”
