Knicks blow 21-point lead in 92-85 loss to Nets in Summer League action

The Knicks’ Summer League team dropped their second straight contest, 92-85, to the Nets on Tuesday evening in Las Vegas.

After two games, the Knicks are 0-2.

New York got off to a fast start and took advantage of a lazy Brooklyn defense to get out to a 28-11 lead. The Nets shot 4-of-16 while New York went 12-of-16 in the first quarter.

Duane Washington Jr. scored 10 points in the first quarter to lead the team’s early barrage but it wouldn’t last long.

In the second, the Nets fought back and went into halftime down just 43-39 after being down by as much as 21 points. Brooklyn went on a 14-0 run to end the second quarter, led by Jalen Wilson who scored 11 in the frame.

Wilson was the star of Tuesday’s game. The second-year player finished with a game-high 27 points on 8-of-16 shooting (5-for-10 from three), three rebounds and one assist. He was also a game-high plus-19 on the court.

The third quarter was highly contested with 2024 first-round pick Pacome Dadiet hitting back-to-back threes to keep the Nets from taking the lead.

Dadiet finished with 11 points on 4-of-13 shooting (2-for-7 from three) with eight rebounds and two assists.

When Brooklyn made their fourth-quarter push, Wilson was at the forefront, scoring 15 points in the final frame including a dagger three with the Nets up just three to hold off the Knicks for their second win of the Summer League.

Tyler Kolek, the Knicks’ second-round pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, had a tough game, scoring just six points on 3-of-8 shooting (0-for-5 from three) with two rebounds and seven assists. He was a game-low minus-18 in 29 minutes on the court.

Jacob Toppin scored five points in his 19 minutes of play. He went to the locker room with a trainer in the third quarter and seemingly did not return to the bench.

Washington Jr. finished with a team-high 21 points on 7-of-12 shooting (2-for-6 from three) with three rebounds and one assist. Dmytro Skapintsev put up 19 points and came down with nine rebounds in 17 minutes of play. He, Washington Jr. and Dadiet were the only Knicks to score in double figures.
