North Carolina basketball has a nonconference schedule for the 2024-25 season that includes games against Alabama, Kansas and a trip to Hawaii.
The Tar Heels finalized their non-ACC stretch on Wednesday. UNC coach Hubert Davis added several players from the transfer portal, including Belmont’s Cade Tyson, and a talented recruiting class to join returning starters Elliot Cadeau and RJ Davis.
Carolina opens the season Nov. 4 against Elon at the Dean E. Smith Center. Here’s a breakdown of UNC’s top nonconference games and a look at the full nonconference slate.
UNC basketball at Kansas in rematch of 2022 national championship
On Nov. 8, the Tar Heels will travel to Allen Fieldhouse to play Kansas in their first trip to Lawrence since 1960. The Jayhawks, who were once led by former UNC coach Roy Williams, beat the Heels in the 2022 national championship game in Hubert Davis’ first season. Those two programs have combined for 37 Final Fours and 10 NCAA titles.
Tar Heels could face UConn in 2024 Maui Invitational
UNC will head to Hawaii to play the Rainbow Warriors on Nov. 22 before participating in the Maui Invitational from Nov. 25-27 in Lahaina. The Tar Heels are one of seven teams in Maui that played in the 2024 NCAA Tournament, including back-to-back national champion UConn. The Tar Heels and Huskies will be joined by Auburn, Colorado, Dayton, Iowa State, Memphis and Michigan State. UNC has won the Maui Invitational four times and went on to win the national title in three of those seasons.
UNC hosts Alabama in Sweet 16 rematch
For the third season in a row, the Tar Heels will face the Crimson Tide. In the last two seasons, UNC has been on the wrong end of the scoreboard with a quadruple-overtime loss in 2022 and a season-ending loss to Alabama in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament last season. The Tide will roll into Chapel Hill this season.
