Patrick Beverley wastes no time acclimating after Bucks trade, coaches up Brook Lopez in Milwaukee debut

The Bucks made a number of moves at the NBA trade deadline, boosting the cast around Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard for a run at a title.

Little did the team know, they are also adding another coach to Doc Rivers’ staff.

In Patrick Beverley’s first game sporting the Buck after he was acquired at the deadline, the veteran point guard wasted no time making his presence known on the court. We’re not talking about locking up Brandon Miller or Cody Martin on the opposing Charlotte side — we’re talking about Beverley coaching up his own team in the first quarter.

The pesky guard was seen giving pointers to veteran center Brook Lopez in the first quarter of the Bucks-Hornets contest on Friday night. He even managed to get his hands on a clipboard, drawing up plays for his brand-new teammate.

The Milwaukee big man was shaking his head, maybe in agreement, maybe as a polite way of acknowledging Beverley’s efforts.

Beverley was sent to the Bucks by the 76ers, who acquired Cam Payne and a draft pick in the deal. In addition to Beverley, the Bucks also traded Lopez’s brother, Robin, to the Kings for cash considerations. Lopez is expected to be waived and become a free agent.

Even before arriving in Wisconsin, Beverley was itching to get started with the Bucks. He previously discussed on deadline day having to get his relationship “right” with Damian Lillard, due to previous beef in the past. He then jokingly called out Payne on X, formerly Twitter, telling him to get his physical done so that the trade could be processed and Beverley could play on Friday.

Somebody tell Cam Payne take his physical. I’m trying to play tonight. #FearTheDeer @PatBevPod

Beverley finished the game with 11:41 on the court against the Hornets, recording six points, a rebound and four assists. Milwaukee blew out Charlotte 120-84 thanks to Lillard, Lopez, Jae Crowder andMalik Beasley all putting up at least 30 points in the win.

Despite the strong showing, Beverley knows he has more to give. He had a very Pat Bev-like message to Bucks fans after the dominant victory over the Hornets.
