Tennessee State football will celebrate homecoming with the chance to remain in the thick of the Big South/Ohio Valley Conference race when Eastern Illinois visits Nissan Stadium.

The Tigers (4-2, 2-1) are coming off back-to-back come-from-behind conference wins over Charleston Southern 13-9 and Lindenwood 24-20. Coach Eddie George is proud of the resilience his team showed in those two games but has also stressed the importance of getting off to better starts.

The Tigers have scored a total of only seven points in the first quarter of their conference games.

EIU (1-5, 0-2) fell into a last-place tie with Gardner-Webb and Charleston Southern after losing to Southeast Missouri 38-27 last week. The Panthers did, however, beat TSU 30-17 last season.

EIU is struggling on both sides of the ball. The Panthers are last in total offense (298.7 yards) in the Big South/OVC and next-to-last in total defense (444.3). TSU is not much better offensively (309.3) but has moved to second in the conference and 24th in the FCS defensively (322.0).
