There is no injury prognosis or timetable for return for UCF senior guard Jaylin Sellers — the team’s top returning scorer — after he sustained an undisclosed injury Sunday in an exhibition against Florida Gulf Coast, Knights coach Johnny Dawkins said.
Dawkins took to the podium Wednesday during the Big 12 Conference men’s basketball media day in Kansas City, Missouri.
“He’s home, he’s resting and we’ll see what happens,” he said. “We’re taking it day by day. … He’s in good spirits, and he’s moving forward.”
What happened during the exhibition vs. Florida Gulf Coast?
Near the 15:30 mark of the second half, Sellers received a pass on the right wing. He dribbled left, making contact with Eagles guard Zavian McLean. Sellers then hobbled a few steps toward midcourt before gingerly laying down on his stomach.
He remained on the hardwood for multiple minutes before being transported off on a stretcher.

“I know he’s going to get some imaging,” Dawkins told reporters following Sunday’s exhibition. “We’ll kind of see what happened. But as of right now, we’re just praying that he’s going to be OK, and that’s the extent of what I know.”
Sellers posted on social media a few hours later.
“Thanks for all the prayers,” he wrote on his X account. “I’ll be back soon. Knight Nation, I love y’all.”

Jaylin Sellers spent two years at Ball State before transferring to UCF before last season.
During the 2023-24 season, Sellers averaged 15.9 points per game. He started 32 of 33 contests as the Knights went 17-16 and made the National Invitation Tournament.
