LAWRENCE — Kansas basketball is no stranger to scheduling high-profile games during its non-conference schedule.
This season alone, the Jayhawks welcome North Carolina and NC State to Lawrence. They face Michigan State and Duke at neutral sites. They face Creighton and Missouri on the road.
So, it doesn’t come as much of a surprise that Kansas is going to be a part of the 2027 Hall of Fame Series event in Las Vegas at Allegiant Stadium. The Jayhawks are going to face Indiana on Nov. 12, 2027. It’s a game that’s part of a double-header, with Duke set to face off against Arizona in a package of games a KU release said Sunday would be televised on the networks and platforms of TNT Sports.

“I just think it’s hard to pass up being a part of something that’s going to be the focal point of all the eyeballs in college basketball,” Kansas basketball coach Bill Self added Monday. “I think the Champions (Classic) deal is still the marquee double-header going in the preseason, and I also believe — there’s other big games, there’s no question, people are playing them all over, which is great for our sport to play as many big non-conference games, inter-conference games, as you possibly can. But to open up Allegiant Stadium the year that they play the Final Four, with a field like Indiana and Duke and … Arizona, I mean, that’s pretty good.”
Self mused he thinks they could attract a minimum of 30,000 or even 40,000 fans for the event. He thinks that would be a pretty good way to tip off the season, and bring interest to college basketball at a time when football has a tendency to dominate people’s attention. He mentioned he would rather be a part of it than not.
It’s hard to say what Self’s roster would look like that season, given that game is still a few years away. But looking at this upcoming season, which will see Kansas open Nov. 4 at home against Howard, the…
