Kansas basketball’s Bill Self expects Rylan Griffen, Shakeel Moore available vs Washburn

LAWRENCE — Kansas basketball’s preseason exhibition slate continues Tuesday at home against Washburn.

Kansas is a Division I program, led by head coach Bill Self. Washburn is a Division II program, led by head coach Brett Ballard, who both played in college at KU and later worked on Self’s coaching staff. Here are a few things to think about ahead of tip-off for the Jayhawks, who will enter the regular season as the No. 1 team in the nation.

Expect Rylan Griffen and Shakeel Moore to play, but not Hunter Dickinson

Kansas wasn’t playing at full strength during its recent exhibition defeat on the road against Arkansas. Neither graduate center Hunter Dickinson, graduate guard Shakeel Moore nor junior guard Rylan Griffen played due to injury. However, at least for two of those three, it looks as if that absence will end Tuesday.

Self said he envisions both Moore and Griffen playing Tuesday against Washburn, albeit potentially in a limited way. Self didn’t think, at least as of Monday afternoon, that Dickinson would play. Dickinson, though, did practice Sunday.

The exhibition format won’t resemble the Arkansas game

Kansas’ exhibition against Arkansas was played in four quarters, instead of two halves, and heading into it Self had outlined how they were going to allow for some flexibility on how teams could handle the action. However, Self said he and Ballard haven’t talked about doing anything like that. This upcoming Jayhawks’ exhibition against Washburn will follow the usual college rules.
