HOUSTON (AP)— Domantas Sabonis of the Sacramento Kings exited Saturday night’s matchup against the Houston Rockets early in the first quarter due to a hamstring injury, and the team later confirmed that he would not return.
Approximately one minute into the game, Sabonis was sprinting down the court when he suddenly stopped and clutched his left hamstring. Interim coach Doug Christie called for a timeout, and Sabonis was subsequently removed from the game and taken to the locker room for evaluation.
Following the game, the team disclosed that he had sustained a hamstring injury and would be sidelined for the remainder of the contest.
Christie did not provide further information regarding the injury after the game.
“We’ll have more clarity in the next few days,” he stated. “I expect we’ll have a better idea by tomorrow or the day after.”
Before his exit, Sabonis was averaging 19.9 points, 14.4 rebounds, and 6.3 assists per game.
Christie praised the Kings for their collective effort in his absence during their 113-103 victory, highlighting that six players scored at least 12 points.
“We’re talking about Domantas Sabonis, who fills the stat sheet in an exceptional manner,” he remarked. “Many players stepped up and stayed within themselves. They focused on their roles, which allowed everyone to work together towards a common goal.”
