DALLAS (AP)— The Dallas Mavericks announced on Friday that Anthony Davis is experiencing daily progress in his recovery, although they did not specify when the forward acquired in the Luka Dončić trade might return to the court.
According to the Mavericks, a recent assessment of Davis’ left adductor strain indicated that he “is improving daily and has consequently been cleared for more intensive on-court activities.”
Since being traded on February 2, which sent five-time All-Star Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers, Davis has only participated in a single game for Dallas.
Additionally, the Mavericks reported that center Dereck Lively II, who has been sidelined since January 14 due to a right ankle stress fracture, is making strides in his rehabilitation and has begun individual workouts on the court. Both Davis and Lively will undergo weekly evaluations.
Following a strong first half in a 116-105 triumph over Houston on February 8, Davis suffered an injury late in the third quarter. He concluded that game with impressive stats: 26 points, 16 rebounds, seven assists, and three blocks.
Davis had previously missed his last two outings with the Lakers due to an abdominal strain, as well as the first two games he might have appeared in with the Mavericks.
As the Mavericks prepared for their home game against Memphis on Friday night, they were holding the last Western Conference berth for the NBA Play-In Tournament, marking the 11th game Davis has missed since joining the team, with 18 regular-season contests left.
Since Dončić’s debut with the Lakers on February 10, Los Angeles has amassed a record of 9-2 and is currently riding an eight-game winning streak.
Mavericks center Daniel Gafford also sat out his 10th game on Friday due to a right knee sprain. The team noted that Gafford is “showing progress” and will be reassessed in two weeks.
