LeBron James could be sidelined for several weeks following a groin injury sustained during the Los Angeles Lakers’ defeat to the Boston Celtics.
As reported by ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, there is an initial expectation that James’ recovery might take “a matter of weeks.” Should the injury be as severe as anticipated, the Lakers will have to contend without him during a crucial phase of the regular season, as they strive to secure a top position in the Western Conference.
In the Lakers’ locker room, James reassured reporters, expressing that he has “not much concern” about his condition. “I’m taking it day by day,” LeBron stated. “I’ll evaluate each day to see if there’s any improvement. I’ll ensure proper assessments are done.”
James left the game against the Celtics midway through the fourth quarter while the Lakers were attempting to stage a comeback from a 21-point deficit. The team announced that he suffered a strain in his left groin.
This is not the first instance of James being sidelined due to a similar injury.
During his inaugural season with the Lakers, he tore his left groin on Christmas Day in 2018 during a win against the Golden State Warriors. That injury caused him to miss 17 games, during which the Lakers lost 12, ultimately missing the playoffs.
“I’ve faced this kind of injury before, and I understand what I’m dealing with,” James remarked, adding that his current situation is not as serious. “It’s not as severe as that one. It’s not as severe as that.”
