Mario Chalmers appeared as a guest on Dwight Howard’s podcast, Above The Rim with DH 12.
Their conversation easily shifted toward Chalmers’ experience of playing alongside LeBron James during his time with the Miami Heat. The two-time NBA champion has frequently discussed his bond with his former teammate in recent times, but this episode focused on a humorous incident involving stolen cookies.
“I’ve never seen an adult react that way over cookies,” Chalmers remarked, recalling how the current Los Angeles Lakers star responded to the situation.
“He would board the plane with two bowls filled with chocolate chip cookies, eight in each bowl. He’d grab two scoops of ice cream from the back and indulge in it,” Chalmers explained, eliciting laughter from Howard and others.
“When those cookies got taken,” he continued, trying to mimic LeBron’s furious reaction, “I didn’t want to witness him that angry again.”
“We were in the midst of a 27-game winning streak,” noted the former Kansas standout and 2008 NCAA champion.
Chalmers, now 38, also delved into various other subjects, including the contrasts between playing in the NBA and abroad.
“I had some fun playing overseas, but when you’re accustomed to receiving your paycheck on the 1st and 15th, enjoying luxury accommodations, and then you find yourself over there, it’s like… I’m dealing with dirty floors, sharing a room, and my salary is a month overdue,” he stated.
After competing in 745 NBA games for both the Heat and the Memphis Grizzlies, he took his talents to Italy, joining Virtus Segafredo Bologna for the 2018-19 season, where he secured the Basketball Champions League title. He subsequently played in Greece for AEK and Aris during the following two years.
