After missing several chances to secure a victory against the Milwaukee Bucks, the Indiana Pacers managed to clinch a narrow win, 115-114, thanks to a crucial four-point play by Tyrese Haliburton.
“There was some miscommunication regarding our defensive assignment. He managed to slip to the corner and drain an outstanding shot,” Giannis Antetokounmpo stated during a press briefing after Tuesday’s contest at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
“You either give him space to shoot or make it as challenging as possible for him. Reflecting on it, I might have been better off taking a step back because if he made it, we would still go to overtime,” he commented on his decision that led to the foul on Haliburton.
“Defensively, there’s little more you can do. You just have to try to get in front of him, and he still hits an amazing shot,” he concluded, “You have to give him credit.”
The Greek superstar sought to respond swiftly with 3.4 seconds left on the clock but his three-point attempt fell short as time expired.
He finished the game with 19 points, hitting 9 out of 14 from the field, and recorded 17 rebounds, marking his 45th double-double in the ongoing 2024-25 NBA Regular Season. Initially deemed probable to play due to a strain in his left calf, he logged 34 minutes and contributed seven assists along with one block.
With the current standings, the Bucks and Pacers are set to face off in a first-round playoff matchup as the fourth and fifth seeds in the Eastern Conference.
