Following his impressive victory with the Minnesota Timberwolves against the Denver Nuggets and star player Nikola Jokic, Anthony Edwards has spent time training in Europe and the Balkans.
The 23-year-old American forward shared that he has been observing how Slovenian star Luka Doncic handles increased defensive pressure.
“I particularly focus on Luka. I watch him a lot. It’s insightful to see how he manages double teams, even though our playing styles vary. I believe learning about his strategies for overcoming those challenges greatly benefits my game,” he stated during a media availability at Denver’s Ball Arena on Wednesday.
Earlier this season, Edwards expressed his thoughts on the Dallas Mavericks’ decision to trade Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers. He recognizes the need to further develop his own skills while looking to assert his presence in the NBA and on the international stage with Team USA.
In his fifth season with the Timberwolves, Edwards has played over 64 games, setting the stage for potential career highs with averages of 27.2 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.6 assists, and 1.1 steals per game.
Carrying a six-game winning streak as the Regular Season nears its conclusion, the Timberwolves have improved to a 38-29 record, currently placing them seventh in the Western Conference, just one game shy of securing a direct playoff spot for 2025. With the Lakers holding a 40-24 record, a possible postseason showdown against Doncic could be on the horizon for Edwards.
