Rising Star Matas Buzelis: Lauri Markkanen Highlights Rookies Impressive Potential in NBA Debut

Emerging Lithuanian forward Matas Buzelis joined the NBA last summer, being picked 11th overall by the Chicago Bulls.

He has been gradually making his mark in the league, showcasing his talent during a recent victory against the Utah Jazz, where he scored 17 points and secured nine rebounds as a starter, competing against Lauri Markkanen and the Salt Lake City squad.

Following the game, Markkanen talked to The Athletic and commended the young Euro player.

“As a rookie, there’s always room for improvement. However, I believe he possesses the skill set, resilience, and certainly the athletic ability that we’ve witnessed. He has tremendous potential. From my conversations with his teammates, including Nikola Vučević, I’ve learned that he is a diligent worker and a great person. I anticipate he will thrive,” Markkanen remarked about the 20-year-old rookie from Lithuania.

Buzelis is currently averaging 7.4 points and 3.2 rebounds in 17.1 minutes of play per game this season. Notably, his statistics rise to 12.1 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 2 assists per game when he is in the starting lineup.
