SAN ANTONIO (AP)— Sandro Mamukelashvili delivered a remarkable performance, scoring a career-high 34 points on an impressive 13-for-14 shooting in just 19 minutes, making history as the first NBA player to reach 34 points in under 20 minutes. The San Antonio Spurs defeated the New York Knicks 120-105 on Wednesday night.
Mamukelashvili was impeccable from beyond the arc, hitting all seven of his 3-point attempts, contributing 13 points, seven rebounds, and an assist during the first half, helping San Antonio establish a dominant 28-point lead.
He added 21 points in the fourth quarter, playing a pivotal role in securing the win for the Spurs.
Remarkably, Mamukelashvili now joins a select group as the fourth player in NBA history to accumulate over 30 points while playing less than 20 minutes, following in the footsteps of Jaylen Brown (33), Kevin Love (32), and Kevin Durant (30).
Stephon Castle supported the Spurs with 22 points, marking their third victory in eight games. Chris Paul contributed with 12 points and nine assists.
For the Knicks, Karl-Anthony Towns led the way with 32 points and nine rebounds, while OG Anunoby and Mikal Bridges each added 14 points. New York has gone 3-3 since Jalen Brunson suffered a sprained right ankle.
This win marked a significant morale boost for the Spurs, especially after losing Victor Wembanyama (blood clot in right shoulder) and De’Aaron Fox (surgery on left pinky) to season-ending injuries.
San Antonio outscored New York 38-23 in the second quarter, taking advantage of a 3:37 scoreless period for the Knicks, who managed to bounce back with a 29-16 scoring surge in the third quarter.
