Headline: Bronny James on Embracing Criticism and Building His Future: “I’m Not a Robot—Im Just Getting Started”

LeBron and Bronny James etched their names in history as the first father-son duo to compete together on an NBA court. Yet, the journey hasn’t been simple for the son of one of basketball’s all-time greats, as he faced challenges early in his professional career.

Criticism was abundant, leading him to divide his rookie season between the Los Angeles Lakers and their G League affiliate.

In a candid discussion with The Athletic, he addressed the negative feedback, revealing that he channels it into motivation.

“My initial reaction to all of it is to let it flow through me, keeping my head down and staying focused on work while maintaining a positive attitude. However, at times, it does serve to motivate me. I’m aware of what people are saying, and it’s as if they think I’m some kind of robot without emotions,” Bronny James expressed.

In his nine games with the G League’s South Bay Lakers, James has shown promise, averaging 20.6 points and 5.1 assists per game as he diligently works to enhance his skills.

“I use the criticism as fuel to wake up early every day, hit the gym, put in additional work, study film, and improve continuously. That’s what Rob expects of me as a young player—growing in the G League while learning by observing the Lakers in action.”

After the interview, Bronny earned a spot with the Lakers, stepping in during several injury absences, including one affecting his father. He excelled in a matchup against the Milwaukee Bucks, leading the team with a personal-best of 17 points.

“Building my confidence and comfort comes from experience, from being out there and seizing my opportunities. Staying prepared at all times is crucial for me,” LeBron’s son remarked following the game.

Coach JJ Redick also commended his performance.

“I’m not surprised by what we saw tonight. His confidence is clearly on the rise. The next step is to become an elite athlete in terms of conditioning. With his natural abilities, speed, and ball-handling skills—and our belief that he’ll become a strong shooter in the NBA—he has the chance to significantly leave his mark,” Redick noted.

Ultimately, it appears that Bronny James is progressing on the right track.
