Following a thrilling contest that featured 22 lead changes, the New Orleans Pelicans secured a narrow victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves, finishing at 119-115 in the Target Center.
Rudy Gobert, the starting center, put up ten points, nine rebounds, one block, and one steal in 31 minutes of action, but was held to the bench by head coach Chris Finch during the game’s crucial final moments, including the last eight minutes of the fourth quarter.
“I thrive on competition. Being sidelined isn’t my choice, and it’s tough to watch from the bench,” the 32-year-old Frenchman expressed during a post-game interview on Wednesday. “I respect the coach’s decision. When I’m called upon, I’ll be prepared.”
Gobert shared his thoughts on the game leading to a 40-31 record and a second consecutive loss in the 2024-25 NBA Regular Season, stating, “We’re not moving the ball offensively like we should, and defensively, our consistency and execution are lacking. Turnovers have been detrimental to our defense, and we need to improve on our rebounding as well.”
His teammate Luka Garza from Bosnia did not see any playing time, and Dutch player Jesse Edwards remained on assignment with the Iowa Wolves of the G League.
Meanwhile, Croatian Karlo Matkovic contributed five points, two assists, one block, and one rebound in just over 19 minutes as the backup center for the Pelicans.
In a separate matchup void of European players, the Indiana Pacers staged an impressive comeback, erasing a seven-point deficit in the final minute to defeat the Dallas Mavericks, 135-131, at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
The Mavericks were unable to maintain their seven-point advantage with just one minute remaining, allowing the Pacers to score 14 points in the last 60 seconds for a stunning win!
