DALLAS (AP) — Anthony Davis may be nearing a comeback to the Dallas Mavericks after being sidelined for six weeks due to injury, as he is now listed as doubtful for the Monday night matchup against the Brooklyn Nets, marking the beginning of a four-game road trip.

Davis has been unavailable since suffering a left groin injury during his debut with the Mavericks on February 8, shortly after the high-profile trade that sent Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers, an event that stirred up frustration among Mavericks supporters.

The reigning champions of the Western Conference, the Mavericks are locked in a competitive battle with Phoenix for the 10th spot in the West, the last entry available for the play-in tournament.

Unfortunately for Dallas, Kyrie Irving will not be playing for the remainder of the season following a torn ACL in his left knee, which he sustained during a 122-98 loss to Sacramento on March 3.

Despite the possibility of shutting down Davis due to Irving’s injury, he has remained dedicated to his recovery, participating in road trips and staying connected with his teammates.

Prior to the trade, Davis was already dealing with an abdominal injury that kept him out of his last two games with the Lakers and the first two he could have played for the Mavericks.

Upon his return in a 116-105 win against Houston, Davis recorded 24 points, 13 rebounds, five assists, and all three of his blocked shots in the first half. However, he experienced discomfort late in the third quarter due to his groin issue and completed the game with 26 points, 16 rebounds, and seven assists.

Out of the Mavericks’ remaining 11 games, seven are away from home, and there’s a strong possibility that Davis could make his return during this four-game trip. Upcoming matches include the New York Knicks on Tuesday, the Orlando Magic on Thursday, and the Chicago Bulls on Saturday.
