The San Antonio Spurs are keeping a close eye on Juan Núñez, whom they drafted 36th overall in last year’s NBA draft. The 20-year-old point guard has signed a three-year contract with Barcelona but is currently out due to a knee injury that cut his season short.
Nonetheless, the Spurs remain optimistic about his future and are in sync with Barça regarding his progress.
“We’ve had numerous people going to Spain to meet with him and work with the Barcelona organization. From what I understand, we maintain a strong relationship. We’re very much on the same page when it comes to his development and the experiences he’s gaining there, and we aim to continue supporting his evolution as a young player,” said interim coach Mitch Johnson in an interview with Mundo Deportivo.
Johnson emphasized that what the Spurs appreciate most in Núñez is his remarkable passing skill.
“He’s an exceptional passer who has been competing at a high level since his youth. Although he isn’t physically present with us right now, he remains part of our development program. We’re eager for him to keep improving and see how far we can take his potential,” Johnson added.
Before his injury, Núñez made 25 appearances in the EuroLeague with Barcelona, averaging 5 points, 3.4 assists, and 2.5 rebounds per game.
