Jusuf Nurkić Embraces NBAs European Expansion, Fears for EuroLeagues Future

The NBA has unveiled its intention to establish a European league in collaboration with FIBA, generating increasing interest and discussion within the basketball community.

Jusuf Nurkić, a center for the Charlotte Hornets and hailing from Bosnia and Herzegovina, shared his thoughts on the NBA’s expansion into Europe.

“I believe this is a positive development. It will provide players with greater opportunities and the freedom to select their teams. When the NBA is involved, it deserves serious consideration because we have faith in how Adam Silver and his team handle things. I envision a strong league emerging from this. My only hope is that it doesn’t overshadow the EuroLeague, which is a fantastic competition with incredible atmospheres,” Nurkić stated in an interview with Mundo Deportivo.

He also conveyed his respect for the EuroLeague.

“Everyone appreciates the EuroLeague, and I am a big supporter myself. I keep track of it, and I sincerely hope that FIBA and the NBA can collaborate to establish something equally competitive. That should be the aim.”

Nurkić is optimistic about the possibility of both leagues thriving together in European basketball.

“I’m not sure—the EuroLeague currently has its own regulations. However, I hope that both can exist side by side. It would be ideal if they develop something that enhances the game and benefits the players, as there is a universal desire for high-caliber basketball. That’s how it can be successful. We’ll have to wait and see,” Nurkić concluded.
