Durant Sets Sights on San Antonio: Aiming to Team Up with Wembanyama for Championship Run

As the Phoenix Suns are anticipated to trade Kevin Durant, multiple media sources have identified the San Antonio Spurs as the most probable landing spot for the two-time NBA champion and four-time Olympic gold medalist representing the United States.

With rumors gaining traction, Hoops Wire has reported that the 36-year-old forward has a strong preference for a trade to San Antonio.

Durant’s contract extends through the 2025-26 season before he enters free agency, which adds complexity to trade discussions with potential teams. Despite increasing talk of a move to the Spurs, the specifics of what the Suns would receive in return remain uncertain.

A Washington, D.C. native, Durant played in Texas during the 2006-07 NCAA campaign, leading to his selection as the second overall pick in the 2007 NBA Draft by the Seattle Supersonics. Over his professional career, he has played for Seattle, the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Golden State Warriors starting in 2016, the Brooklyn Nets from 2019, and the Suns in 2023. A potential transition to San Antonio would rekindle his ties with the state where he began his collegiate journey.

Moreover, he would partner with French sensation Victor Wembanyama, who is expected to be medically cleared for the beginning of the next season. The 21-year-old, the top draft pick in 2023, had to conclude his 2024-25 season early due to deep vein thrombosis in his right shoulder. If he recovers well and is joined by Durant, the Spurs could become serious contenders for the championship.
