Nikola Jovic, a forward, has finalized a four-year rookie contract extension worth $62.4 million with the Miami Heat, as confirmed to ESPN by agents Jeff Schwartz, Sean Kennedy, and Jared Mucha from Excel Sports Management.
The Serbian forward has secured a fully guaranteed contract with the Heat, who selected him as the 27th overall pick in the 2022 NBA draft.
Last season, he posted a career-high average of 10.7 points but appeared in just 46 games due to a right hand fracture sustained in February. Fortunately, he made a comeback in time for the playoffs and also participated in Eurobasket with the Serbian national team.
At just 22 years old, Jovic is expected to play a significant role for both the Miami Heat and the Serbian national squad in the upcoming years.
“He’s showing increased maturity and professionalism,” Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra remarked recently during media day when discussing Jovic and the impact of his experiences with the Serbian team in the past summers. “When you’re around players who are substantially older than you, growth is a natural process. Over the past three years, I’ve witnessed noticeable development in him, largely due to the standards upheld in that program.”
