Nikola Jovic, a forward for the Miami Heat, has finalized a rookie contract extension worth $62.4 million over four years, as confirmed by his agents Jeff Schwartz, Sean Kennedy, and Jared Mucha from Excel Sports Management to ESPN.
The Serbian athlete is set to receive a fully guaranteed contract after being drafted by the Heat as the 27th overall pick in the 2022 NBA draft.
Last season, he recorded a career-high average of 10.7 points per game, although he was limited to just 46 games due to a fractured bone in his right hand sustained in February. He made his return in time for the playoffs and also participated in the recent Eurobasket tournament with the Serbian national team.
At 22 years old, Jovic is expected to become a pivotal player for both the Miami Heat and his national squad in the coming years.
Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra commented on Jovic’s development during this week’s media day, highlighting the importance of his experiences with the Serbian team over the summer: “He’s maturing and becoming more professional. When you’re surrounded by players who are older than you, growth is a natural outcome. I’ve witnessed his progress over the past three years due to the high standards upheld by that program.”
