Alperen Sengun Shines in NBA Preseason, Credits EuroBasket for Enhanced Performance

In accordance with team protocols, the Houston Rockets and Alperen Sengun shifted their focus to the NBA Preseason 2025 on Monday, securing a victory over the Atlanta Hawks at the Toyota Center.

The 23-year-old Turkish center played for just over 17 minutes, achieving a game-high of 19 points with an impressive shooting performance of 5 out of 9 from the field, which included making both of his three-point attempts. He also displayed his playmaking ability with six assists, alongside five rebounds and two blocks.

When asked if his experience with the Turkish senior national team during EuroBasket 2025 had prepared him for the upcoming 2025-26 Regular Season, he replied confidently, “Of course.”

“I had a bit of a short season this summer, and I didn’t take much time off after playing with the national team, which worked out well for me. I returned here still in shape and ready for the season,” he elaborated.

During his time in Riga from August 27 to September 14, Sengun averaged 21.6 points, 10.1 rebounds, 6.6 assists, 1.1 blocks, and 1.0 steals per game, which contributed to his team earning a silver medal and his selection to the All-Star Five.

“I feel stronger. I might even say I feel quicker. I always notice I feel faster whether I have the ball or not,” he added, reflecting on the benefits of the recent FIBA tournament.

As the Rockets prepare for their second preseason game in Houston, under Coach Ime Udoka, they will take on the Utah Jazz on Wednesday. Kevin Durant is expected to join his new teammates on the court after missing the first preseason game.

After playing two more exhibition matches, the Rockets will kick off the Regular Season against the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder at Paycom Center on October 21.
