Adhering to team protocols, the Houston Rockets and Alperen Sengun kicked off their NBA Preseason 2025 campaign on Monday, achieving a victory over the Atlanta Hawks at the Toyota Center.
The 23-year-old center from Turkey played for just over 17 minutes, registering an impressive 19 points, which was the highest in the game, thanks to his 5-of-9 shooting from the floor, including a perfect 2-of-2 from beyond the arc. He showcased his playmaking ability with six assists, while also contributing five rebounds and two blocks.
“Absolutely,” he confidently replied when asked if his time with the Turkish senior national team during EuroBasket 2025 had aided his preparation for the upcoming 2025-26 Regular Season.
“I had a relatively short season this summer, and I didn’t take much time off after playing with the national team, which has been beneficial for me. I returned here still in good shape, ready for the season ahead,” he elaborated.
During his time in Riga from August 27 to September 14, Sengun averaged 21.6 points, 10.1 rebounds, 6.6 assists, 1.1 blocks, and 1.0 steals per game, leading to a silver medal and earning a spot on the All-Star Five.
“I feel stronger overall. I think I’m also quicker. I tend to feel faster with the ball or when moving without it,” he reflected on the benefits gained from participating in the recent FIBA tournament.
Remaining in Houston for their second exhibition game, the team, under coach Ime Udoka, will face off against the Utah Jazz on Wednesday. Kevin Durant is expected to join his new teammates on the court after missing the preseason opener.
After two additional preseason matches, the Rockets will launch the Regular Season against the reigning champions, the Oklahoma City Thunder, at Paycom Center on October 21.
