Doncic Emphasizes Next Man Up Mentality as Lakers Face Challenges Without LeBron

LeBron James is set to be sidelined for at least a month, but the Lakers refuse to focus on his absence.

Luka Doncic believes this won’t significantly alter the overall dynamics of the team.

“It’s a significant adjustment,” Doncic remarked regarding playing without James. “He’s an exceptional player who contributes immensely. Nonetheless, our mindset should be ‘next man up.’ We have a solid roster of players who have been training hard, and we all hope LeBron returns soon. We will certainly miss him, but we need to adopt the ‘next man up’ mentality. That’s essential.”

When asked if he feels the need to step up his game in LeBron’s absence, the Slovenian superstar shared his perspective.

“I don’t see it that way,” Doncic replied after practice on Saturday. “My focus is simply on playing basketball. Whether I do less or more, I’ll do whatever it takes to secure a victory.”

Currently, the Lakers have struggled in the preseason without both James and Doncic, standing at 0-2 against the Phoenix Suns and Golden State Warriors.

“I had the national team experience,” Doncic shared about his recent performance. “Playing basketball for about a month or so. It’s a long season ahead, and that’s just part of it.”
