Giannis Antetokounmpo Envisions Returning to Greece to Conclude His Basketball Journey

Giannis Antetokounmpo recently participated in his inaugural interview with a non-sports media outlet in Greece, reiterating his aspiration to conclude his professional journey in his homeland.

During his appearance on the “2night show,” a Greek version of American late-night programs, Giannis elaborated on his career’s end, expressing his firm intentions.

He stated, “At 30, I’m capable of playing in the NBA until I’m 36 to 38. I envision finishing my career with a Greek team; why not? I have no desire to remain in America. Once my NBA days are over, I wish to return to Greece. I could retire here, whether it’s with Filathlitikos, Olympiacos, Panathinaikos, or Aris—I’m open to all possibilities.”

Giannis also shared his wish to raise his children in Greece, despite inaccurate reports claiming that his wife and kids have relocated to Athens. He spoke fondly of his family and his wife, Mariah.

Regarding Mariah, he mentioned how important his mother’s approval was in their relationship, which he believes was a significant factor in their marriage.

“Mariah was my first girlfriend, and I married her,” he noted. “If my mother had told me, ‘Giannis, she’s not the one for you,’ I would have shown her the door.”

“She is the love of my life,” he added while discussing his bond with Mariah. “She has blessed me with our children, which is the greatest gift. I’m content with four; and if fate smiles upon us, we might welcome a fifth.”

Additionally, Giannis recounted how Mariah initially rejected his advances before he persevered.

“In 2015, I asked a friend to speak to her, but she turned me down. I made another attempt in 2016. I consider myself a decent guy, so I told her we could be friends. A year later, she reached out to me, and we started talking,” Giannis reminisced.
