Kevin Durant has reached an agreement with the Houston Rockets for a two-year extension worth $90 million, as reported by ESPN’s senior NBA insider Shams Charania on Sunday.
The 37-year-old forward was qualified for a maximum extension of $120 million but chose to forgo some earnings to provide his new team with salary cap flexibility after being traded to the Texas franchise in July.
The contract extension guarantees the next two years fully, and it also includes a player option for the 2027-28 season. The 2025-26 NBA Regular Season is set to kick off on Wednesday, with the Rockets, coached by Ime Udoka, facing the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder at the Paycom Center on Tuesday.
Prior to partnering with Turkish talent Alperen Sengun at the Rockets, Durant played in 1,293 NBA games for the Phoenix Suns, Brooklyn Nets, Golden State Warriors, and the Oklahoma City Thunder/Seattle SuperSonics. During his time with the Warriors, he secured two NBA championships in 2017 and 2018 and was named Finals MVP both times. Additionally, he was awarded the season MVP during the 2013-14 season.
On the international stage, Durant has represented the United States in FIBA competitions, securing Olympic gold medals in 2012, 2016, 2021, and 2024. As the first male athlete with four gold medals, he aims to earn a fifth at the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028. Durant was also named tournament MVP during the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and achieved both gold and MVP honors at the 2010 FIBA World Championship.
