Nikola Topić Secures Guaranteed Rookie Contract Ahead of Anticipated NBA Debut

Nikola Topić is preparing for his debut in the NBA, over a year after being chosen as the 12th pick in the 2024 draft. His rookie contract is secured through the end of the 2026-27 season.

On Sunday, the Oklahoma City Thunder, the reigning champions, opted to extend the contracts of both the Serbian point guard and Cason Wallace.

According to a statement from the team, “The Oklahoma City Thunder has invoked its third-year option for guard Nikola Topić and its fourth-year option for guard Cason Wallace, as revealed by Executive Vice President and General Manager Sam Presti.”

Following his selection by the Thunder in the 2024 NBA Draft, Topić spent the entire 2024-25 season sidelined due to recovery from a left knee injury. In the previous year, he played for Crvena zvezda in the Adriatic League, where he averaged 15.1 points on 50.5% shooting, along with 5.9 assists and 3.2 rebounds across 28.4 minutes per game.

In the meanwhile, Wallace has participated in 150 games—starting in 56—over two seasons with the Thunder, posting averages of 7.5 points, 2.0 assists, and 1.31 steals in 23.8 minutes. The Kentucky alum was honored with selections to the Rising Stars teams in both 2024 and 2025 during All-Star weekend and received All-Rookie Second Team recognition at the conclusion of the 2023-24 season.

At 20 years old, Topić is expected to make his first appearance in the North American league this November, after being placed on the injury list at the start of the 2025-26 regular season due to a procedure for a testicular issue in early October.
