The San Antonio Spurs triumphed over the New Orleans Pelicans, 120-116, in a thrilling overtime matchup on Friday.
At the Smoothie King Center, Victor Wembanyama delivered a standout performance, achieving a double-double with 29 points, 11 rebounds, and an impressive nine blocks, along with two assists and one steal. His last block set the tone for a strong beginning to the extra period, showcasing the 21-year-old French center’s quick reflexes after he missed a shot against Zion Williamson at the end of regulation. This victory allowed the Spurs to start the 2025-26 NBA Regular Season with a 2-0 record.
“I really enjoyed it, once it was over. It was stressful,” Wembanyama shared during the postgame press conference.
Polish player Jeremy Sochan was absent due to a left wrist sprain, while Croatian Karlo Matkovic of the Pelicans was sidelined with low back spasms.
In a nail-biting finish, with only 5.2 seconds remaining, Domantas Sabonis converted a 2+1 play, and Dennis Schroder made a crucial defensive stop to help the Sacramento Kings edge past the Utah Jazz, 105-104, at Golden 1 Center.
