Wembanyamas Stellar Performance Seals Overtime Victory for Spurs Against Pelicans

The San Antonio Spurs triumphed over the New Orleans Pelicans, winning 120-116 in overtime on Friday night.

In a visit to the Smoothie King Center, Victor Wembanyama delivered an impressive performance with a double-double of 29 points and 11 rebounds, alongside an astounding nine blocks, two assists, and a steal. His final block was pivotal, setting the tone for the extra period. This display came after he had missed a shot against Zion Williamson as time expired in the fourth quarter, marking the Spurs’ second victory in the 2025-26 NBA Regular Season.

“I really enjoyed it once it was all over, but it was quite stressful,” Wembanyama shared at the start of the postgame press conference.

The Spurs were without Polish teammate Jeremy Sochan, who is nursing a left wrist sprain, while Croatian Karlo Matkovic of the Pelicans was sidelined due to low back spasms.

In another matchup, with just 5.2 seconds remaining, Domantas Sabonis executed a crucial 2+1 play, and Dennis Schroder made a vital defensive stop, leading the Sacramento Kings to edge out the Utah Jazz 105-104 at the Golden 1 Center. After missing the season opener due to a right hamstring strain, the 29-year-old Lithuanian big man returned to the court with a double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds. On the losing side, Finnish Lauri Markkanen topped the scoring charts with 33 points, shooting 12 for 23, including 4 for 13 from three-point range. Ukrainian Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk also started and scored nine points, while Bosnian Jusuf Nurkic tallied four points and grabbed 11 boards.

Franz Wagner led the Orlando Magic with a game-high 27 points, but despite an early 12-point lead in the fourth quarter, they fell to the Atlanta Hawks, 111-107, at the Kia Center. Fellow German player Tristan da Silva contributed 15 points, while Georgian Goga Bitadze added three. French players Noah Penda was inactive, and Moritz Wagner (recovering from a left knee issue) was also unavailable. The Hawks were missing Latvian Kristaps Porzingis (illness) and French Zaccharie Risacher (right ankle sprain), along with Serbian Nikola Djurisic and Spanish Eli Ndiaye, who didn’t travel to Orlando. The only European option available for head coach Quin Snyder was Czech Vit Krejci, who scored five points.

At the American Airlines Center, Swiss player Kyshawn George shone with 34 points on 11 of 15 shooting, including seven three-pointers, and added 11 rebounds for a double-double, leading the Washington Wizards to a 117-107 victory over the Dallas Mavericks. Israeli Deni Avdija was the top scorer for the Portland Trail Blazers, finishing with 26 points, while Belgian Toumani Camara added 19 more in a 139-119 victory against the Golden State Warriors at the Moda Center. French player Rayan Rupert saw 3:43 of play, recording one rebound and one assist, while fellow French import Sidy Cissoko did not participate.
