Shaquille O’Neal has always been vocal about his belief that he ranks among the greatest centers in NBA history.
However, the Lakers icon readily acknowledged a current standout player whom he believes may have achieved an even higher level of greatness.
“We play different styles, but if I had to choose, I’d say Giannis. The game has transformed since my era, and that’s essential; progression in basketball is what you want,” O’Neal remarked when asked to compare himself to Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo during their peak performances.
Antetokounmpo has made a sensational start to the season, resembling the powerful presence O’Neal once embodied. In his first three games, he’s averaging an impressive 36.3 points and 14.0 rebounds, driving the Bucks’ strong beginning.
In a showdown against the New York Knicks on Tuesday night, Giannis delivered a stellar performance with 37 points, eight rebounds, seven assists, one steal, and two blocks, further cementing his status among the league’s elite players.
