Jokic Makes History with Fourth Consecutive Triple-Double as Nuggets Embrace European Style of Play

Nikola Jokic has made history by becoming the third player in NBA history to kick off a regular season with four consecutive triple-doubles, joining the ranks of Oscar Robertson and Russell Westbrook. This achievement helped the Denver Nuggets dominate the New Orleans Pelicans with a score of 122-88 at Ball Arena. On Wednesday, Jokic recorded 21 points, 12 rebounds, 10 assists, and 2 steals.

“It’s not as easy as it may seem. We should stop labeling it that way. I still run and jump just like everyone else. Sometimes the game favors me, and I have a standout performance, like today,” remarked the 30-year-old Serbian star during the postgame press conference when asked about his latest triple-double. “I hope for similar results in the future.”

He also lauded head coach David Adelman’s rotation decisions, saying, “It resembles a European approach. The player who is hot gets to play. If someone is having a strong game, they stay on the court.”

Lithuanian Jonas Valanciunas contributed 10 points for the Pelicans, while Croatian Karlo Matkovic managed just 2 points.

On the other side, Lithuanian Matas Buzelis led the Chicago Bulls with 27 points on a strong 11-of-18 shooting performance, while Montenegrin Nikola Vucevic added a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds, along with 7 assists, as the Bulls overcame the Sacramento Kings 126-113 at United Center. With Slovenian Luka Doncic (left finger sprain / lower left leg contusion) and German Maxi Kleber (abdominal strain) both sidelined, Austin Reaves sank the decisive shot, securing a 116-115 victory for the Los Angeles Lakers against the Minnesota Timberwolves at Target Center. Italian Donte DiVincenzo put up 14 points for the Timberwolves, while French Rudy Gobert finished with 9 points. French Joan Beringer was inactive.

The Toronto Raptors were without Austrian big man Jakob Poeltl (low back tightness) as Turkish Alperen Sengun dominated with 18 points, 9 assists, 8 rebounds, 2 blocks, and 2 steals, leading the Houston Rockets to a 139-121 win at Scotiabank Arena.
