The Milwaukee Bucks will be incorporating some new systems under new head coach Adrian Griffin – but Brook Lopez will continue to anchor the team in the middle.

The Defensive Player of the Year runner-up agreed to re-sign with the Bucks on a 2-year, $48 million deal as a free agent, the Journal Sentinel confirmed.

The deal, originally reported by The Athletic, cannot be made official until 11:01 a.m. CT on July 6.

Lopez originally signed with Milwaukee in the 2018 offseason and under then-head coach Mike Budenholzer, and the center became a two-time all-defensive team player anchoring the team’s drop defense and becoming one of the elite rim protectors in the NBA.

Offensively, Lopez transitioned fully from a traditional all-star post scorer to a consistent three-point shooter who helped create space for Giannis Antetokounmpo and Khris Middleton.

Lopez arguably had one of the best seasons of his career on both ends of the floor last year in leading the NBA in blocked shots and averaging 15.9 points per game. He did it after fully recovering from a December 2021 back surgery that limited him to 13 games in the 2021-22 season.
